Hi Asha
Is your son taking the liquid version or the tablet omeparazole? If it’s the liquid, please taste it. I was taught to taste all of Jack’s medicine and I think it was good advice. Unless the liquid is made up and flavoured especially it tastes absolutely disgusting. My son Jack refused to drink after having it so a nurse gave me some. When I tried it, it took a long time to get the taste out of my mouth, despite me eating. Whenever Jack could eat or drink we gave him the tablet dissolved in water into his mouth and when he couldn’t, we gave him the liquid through his tube. He started on the tablet dissolved at 6 weeks old and was fine with it. The little grains eventually went down with bits of milk and water.
If this isn’t a factor, maybe you should get a different drug to try instead. It’s hard to work out the cause when there are two factors involved, new drug plus dilatation.
Another thought, are you giving him pain medication? I reckon it would feel worse than a sore throat so maybe he needs some regular paracetamol for a couple of days and nice custard or pureed food. Jack rarely drank so I can’t comment much on after his dilatations but we used to give him yoghurt etc.
Hope he starts to eat and drink soon.
