Hi,
Eden has the tof repair scar under right armpit, drainage scars on chest, about a 4 inch scar right side of stomach just above belly button (due to gastric perforation after tof repair) she has five 1 inch scars from nissens and has a gastrostomy in now which has been treated with silver nitrate because of over granulation so i guess when this comes out that will be noticeable too :-( she has a hernia which will need to be sorted out at some stage! I don’t think they will bother Eden when she gets older well i hope they don’t!!
Take care
Maxine x

Hi, i love my tof scars, i feel like i wear them with pride. I appreciate they are fairly modest by some standards but they usually attract attention. I have the classic one around the shoulder blade which is well stretched, I am 25. I also have a small dent of a scar from a tube.
Its interesting to hear what others are like.
cheers

Amy has 2 big scars where she wear a bra. They had to reopen them so there are longer now.
Scar on her neck because she had no veins left to use.
3 scars on her back like circles from different tubes.

Hi I’m Sam, my TOF/OA surgery was done back in 1965, the drainage tubes were way bigger then, I have dent in my back from that. I have the main wound scar under my right axilla, the sutures were not removed, but only trimmed. as the GOSH staff didn’t think I was going to make it. As a consequence of the sutures being left in, the scar was very raised and bunched up. I wasn’t cofident with the scars, so when I turned 30 years old, I had plastic surgery. It was so wierd after the plastic surgery, as the scar had been a part of me all my life. Even though I hated it, I missed the old scar. It took me 2 years to get used to my new body image. I am pleased now that I have a much neater scar, I no longer worry about wearing summer clothes or swimwear.

Mark, thankyou so much for the photos and the facebook link, I just joined My 5 yr old son is a TOF, and he has the scar on his back. His surgery was described to us before the op as being very radical and we were warned of lots of scars. The surgeon actually did the most amazing job, especially on a prem baby. The scar after the op was only an inch long with two small stitches, no drainage tubes or anything like that. I didn’t realise the scar would stretch as he grew, it is much much longer now, but still very flat and neat.
Just want to say as a Mum to a TOF how much I love reading contributions from Adult tofs. My little boy was so ill and so vulnerable i sometimes wondered whether he would ever be able to enjoy his life. He is now a boisterous naughty sweet generous talkative perfectly normal little boy .

Hi My daughter Bernadette has beautiful scars, thanks to the wonderful surgeons. She is 9 now and the one on her neck is not noticable at all. Stomach has 2 large scars from gastric pull up, very fine and 2 under her right arm, one is deep. She tells people she was biten by a shark and survived. They don’t bother her, she wears a bikini and is just happy rolling along in life. I think we parents worry more than the kids, she has never know her body any other way so “Why worry she says!”

I am a 52year old TOF/OA VACTERAL survivour - proud of my scars - fighting sharks etc!! With lots of love and support we can get through anything. I am lucky to have been part of the 2% who ssurvived surgery 52 years ago - are there any older TOFs out there? My parents were 17 when I was born, seperated from them for 2 weeks - underwent life saving ssurgery and still here with the distinctive cough 52 years on! Good luck to all those new parents out there - it can be done - I am living proof x Katrina
